Tea Towels

Dear Parents/Carers

You will shortly be receiving a tea towel which includes drawings or hand prints of the children at nursery. These make fabulous gifts but are also great to keep as a reminder of PlayAway when children leave to move on to ‘Big’ School.

Your tea towel will be sent home for approval, and should you wish to keep it, please could you send a payment of £4.95 (either cash or cheque made payable toPlayaway Day Nursery). You also have the option of ordering further towels, details of which are included in your pack. If you do not wish to keep the tea towel, please just return it to nursery by the 8 July. Please ensure that payment is made by the 15 July should you wish to keep your tea towel.

I hope you will enjoy these - we think they are amazing!!!!!

When we find something we think might help, we’ll make sure to add it to our funcare blog. This is our latest list of local harrogate activities, groups, events and centres for parents:

Minos

If you are a new mum feeling low, isolated or struggling with the demands of a baby, ask your GP, Health Visitor or PSA about the MINOS group. This friendly and informal group of mums and volunteers are here to support you. MINOS is open to mums who have been referred only.

Speech Therapy Drop in Sessions

Is your child talking? Do you have any concerns? Open sessions with qualified speech and language therapists. No appointment needed. Please arrive 30 minutes before the end of the session. For more information contact the Child Development Centre on 01423 553122.

Portage Playtime

For children with additional needs. Music and play sessions for children and their carers. They help children to build on their communication and social skills. A chance to meet other parents in a relaxed and safe Environment at Bilton Children’s Centre.

Child Safety Week 20-26 June 2011

Dear Parents/Carers

I would just like to let you know that 20 - 26 June is Child Safety Week. Child Safety Week is the Child Accident Prevention Trust’s annual community education programme. It aims to raise awareness of accidents that occur every year so they can be prevented.

Accident prevention is not about restricting children or over protecting them, instead it is about creating safer environments, both in the home and elsewhere, to enable children to lead healthy, active lives.

The focus this year is on:-

Children with asthma
water safety
safe sleeping for infants

Please look for the posters around the nursery with information on staying safe and if you would like to know more about any of these issues you could go towww.childsafetyweek.org.uk and access the parents’ section where you will find safety advice on key child safety topics.

Turf and Photos

Dear Parents/Carers

You may be wondering where the ‘turfers’ are today - unfortunately they are unable to make it today (Wednesday) as originally planned and will be here tomorrow (Thursday). We will not change the photo day as I know many of you have already made plans to bring children in for their group photo. We will still go ahead with the times as planned but please could I remind you to take special care when coming in and going out of nursery as there will be tools and machinery around. Please ensure that children are not left unattended in the garden at any time.

I apologise for any inconvenience but hopefully by Friday we will have our lovely new turf in the front garden.

Nursery Photos

Please may I just remind everyone about nursery photographs on Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 June. If you child does not attend nursery on these days you are welcome to bring him/her in for their photograph.

Group photos will be taken on Thursday 9 June - babies at 10, toddlers at 11 and pre-school at 11.30. If your child does not attend on this day please feel free to bring him/her along for the group photograph.

Bank holiday and Gardening development

Dear Parents and Carers

Please could you make a note of the following dates:-

Friday 27 May - we are very excited about having astra turf laid in our front garden. They will be starting work in the morning and hopefully it will be finished that day. Please be aware that there will be workers around and gardening equipment, so please ensure that children are well supervised in this area during drop off and collection times.

Monday 30 May - Please note that as this is a bank holiday the nursery will be closed on this day. We will open again on Tuesday morning.

Walk to School Week

Dear Parents/Carers

The week commencing the 16 May is ‘WALK TO SCHOOL’ week and we hope you will try to promote exercise as a way of keeping healthy. ‘Walk to school’ week is also supported by Phunky Foods and there are some resources and activity ideas on their website. Just to keep on with our monthly reminders during the Year of Communication, The Top Tip for Talking for May is:-

Parents Evening - Tuesday 10 May 6.30-8.30

Dear Parents/Carers

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you about Parent’s Evening on Tuesday 10 May. We would like as many of you to attend as possible as this is an ideal opportunity to chat to your child’s key person on a one-to-one basis and have a look at their developmental profiles.

You will need to book a time slot with your key person for this between 6.30 and 8.30, so please arrange this next time you are in nursery if you have not done so already.

There will be wine, orange juice and nibbles available and we look forward to being able to have a chat with you.

I would also like to advise you that there are two new members of staff joining us this month. Angela - will join us as from 5 May and Susan will join us as from 16 May. More information will follow in the next newsletter.

IMPORTANT DATES FOR YOU

May 27 – Please note that there will be workmen in the garden on this day who will be laying our new astra turf in the front garden.

May 30 – Bank Holiday – Please note that the nursery will be closed on Monday May 30.

BABY PARENTS

Please could we request that you do not leave bulky bags at nursery. The pegs in the hallway are for babies coats and as spare clothes are kept in their drawers a bag is not required. Bags obstruct the hall area which is part of the play area during the day and long handles and drawstrings are a danger to the children playing there. Thank you for your kind co-operation.

NURSERY PHOTOS

Individual photographs will be taken at nursery on Monday 6 and Tuesday the 7 June. If your child does not attend nursery on these days you are welcome to bring them in for the photo. Please just let the staff in the room know so that we know to expect you.

Group photographs will be taken on Wednesday 8 June from 10.00 am, starting with babies, Toddlers at 11 and pre-school at 11.30. Again, if your child does not attend on this day, please feel free to bring them in for the photo.

CAR PARKING

I understand how difficult it is to park at nursery at times, especially when our precious parking is used by hospital staff. Please could I just remind you to take care when parking outside houses along Claro Road that you do not park over the marked bays and obstruct entrances and exits. If you do need to park in the lane behind nursery to drop off, please ensure that there is enough space for a car to pass as often people have not been able to get out because a parent has blocked the way.

In the morning it is possible to just park in the restaurant car park next to nursery for a quick drop off. Long stay is not an option!

Employee of the Month

March – Well done to Stuart for always being so flexible and willing to work wherever he is needed.

April – Well done to Hannah for being such a reliable and hard working member of the pre-school team.

Pre-school graduation

You are all invited to our pre-school graduation picnic (babies and toddlers too) which will take place on the stray opposite nursery on Sunday 31 July. We celebrate the success of the pre-school children and say good-bye at the same time, but it is also a great opportunity to get out and about, meet other parents, and dads and boys always get involved in a game of footie !!!!! As we support the Change 4 Life programme we would like to encourage exercise as a way of staying healthy and will have a few fun activities available for the children (and adults too). Everyone should have at least 60 active minutes a day. We encourage you to make this your challenge!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS

Best Wishes to the Pears and Henry Families on the recent birth of their lovely little boys – congratulations to Thomas and Robyn on becoming a big brother and a big sister.

Congratulations too to the Shaw family on the birth of their little girl – a new baby sister for Scarlet.

Its for both Men and Women. Its only £40 for 12 weeks. Classes will be run by a Herbalife Independent Distributor.

£20 per participant will go to Funcare Ltd and the remaining £20 per participant will be retained to cover admin, refreshments and

sampling. A prize will be donated for the challenge winner.
